The president elected Harvard physicist John Holdren to be the director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy- and climatologist Jane Lubchenco to head the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. They are both considered to be the climate change experts.
Energy secretary Steven Chu is a strong advocate for alternative energy and the dangers of climate change. A co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics, Secretary Chu is working to move the economy from fossil fuels to alternative energy. During his work as director of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory he shifted the lab’s research more toward advanced biofuels, artificial photosynthesis and other kinds of solar energy.
