Casare Emiliani is an important figure in geochemistry and micropaleontology. He founded the new field of paleoceanography when he discovered strong evidence linking the Earth’s movements having effect on the climate within the ocean. He was awarded the Agaasiz Medal of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences in 1989.
