Dr. Diana Baumrind is a psychologist particularly known for her research into parenting styles. The three styles Baumrind described are authorative, authoritarian, and permissive parenting.
Dr. Diana Baumrind earned her doctorate degree in psychology from University of California at Berkley in 1955. After school, she continued on to a residency at Cowell Hospital where she received a grant to research how family groups react to the therapeutic services. This grant lead to further research into the family structure. In her studies, she focuses on the effects of an authoritative parenting style on children and how parents can create a balance between feminine nurturing (the mother) and masculine self-assertion (the father).
