The number one state for solar energy is California. One main reason is that it gets more annual sunshine than most other states and is one of the largest states. California’s photovoltaic capacity (conversion of solar radiation into usable electricity) is measured in at about 900 megawatts. The second state is surprisingly New Jersey despite its small size and having far less sunny days a year. After New Jersey’s 246 megawatts, colorful Colorado comes in third.
