Which U.S. state is the coldest after Alaska?

    North Dakota is the coldest state after Alaska.  It has an annual mean temperature of 40.43 degrees Fahrenheit. It is closely followed by Maine with has an annual mean temperature of 40.97 degrees Fahrenheit.

    There is no straight answer for this question.  States vary greatly in weather, some having very cold spots but very warm spots as well.  There is no real data that averages temperatures according to states, but there is data that averages temperatures for cities.  The coldest city outside of Alaska is International Falls, MN.  The yearly average temperature here is 36.4 degrees F.  Minnesota has quite a few cities in the top 10 coldest cities outside of Alaska, but so do North Dakota and Michigan.
