Iowa has produced the most corn out of any state for the past fourteen years. In 2007, they produced 2.5 billion bushels! Fertile soil, a long and warm growing season, and sufficient rain make Iowa a prime location for growing corn.
Iowa has produced the largest corn crop of any state for the past 14 years. It actually produces more corn than most countries. The corn that is growing – is not sweet corn however, it is corn that is primarily used for animal feed, including livestock feeding for example for beef (which woldn’t normally eat corn – they evolved to eat grass). It is also used in starches, oil, high fructose corn syrup and ethanol. Thousands of products in the grocery contain corn and that doesn’t includes that almost all factory produced poutly, pork and beef is being fed corn, so the true number is much higher since corn is not in our meat and dairy as well.
