Lightning strikes the earth roughly 10-15 times each second (there are more lightning strikes, about 40-50 a second, but only about a quarter of them reach the earth surface). The Congo gets the most strikes on the earth surface, but in the United States, that record goes to Florida. As a matter of fact, a strip of land between Tampa and Orlando is commonly referred to as “lightning alley.”
