The 2008 Forest Inventory from the U.S. Forest Service tracked numbers of yellow birch trees for most states. Maine has the most yellow birch trees, with a growing stock of 892,912,715 and a rough cull count of 21,947,889. New York comes in 2nd with a growing stock of 354,761,421 and a rough cull count of 13,291,600. Rough cull refers to trees that are less suitable for sale due to poor form.
