    There are three species of trees identified as redwoods:

     Sequoia sempervirens, Coast redwoods which occupy a narrow strip of land approximately 470 miles long and 5–47 miles wide along the Pacific coast of North America through California and Oregon. 

    Sequoiadendron, Giant sequoia or Sierra redwoods which inhabit only the western Sierra Nevada in California. 

    Metasequoia glyptostroboides, dawn redwoods which are native to the Sichuan-Hubei region of China.
