According to a Defenders of Wildlife report, although the exact number of endangered species is not revealed there, Florida has one of the most “endangered ecosystems” in the US. Habitat loss and fragmentation from urban development is still occurring at a rapid rate despite having federal regulations in place to protect these places. The loss of wetlands, which generally have high biodiversity, is endangering many species in Florida.
