Several species of shark are considered either endangered or threatened. The top 5 most endangered sharks species are the Ganges, Pondicherry, Bizant River, New Guinea River, and Angel sharks. Endangerment for the various shark species is the result of over fishing and bycatch (being caught in nets meant for other commercial fish, such as tuna), habitat loss and destruction (waterway pollution and damning of rivers), and their primary food source becoming more and more limited due to plunging fish stocks.
One of the most endangered species of shark is the mako shark. According to the World Wildlife Federation, they are listed as number 10 on the list of most endangered species.
