Which railway system uses the least amount of energy?

From what I could dig up it seems like monorails (like the ones in Seattle and Las Vegas) use the least amounts of energy.  Following that would be light rails.  Basically Monorails and light rails (obviously by the name) are “lighter” than heavy rail trains, thus requiring less anergy.  Also, light rail and monorail run off of electricity and even sometimes partially by magnets. This obviously helps because no fossil fuel is being burned and it would be easy to convert these over to renewable energy (like solar)
