Which pollutes more groundwater, farms or factories?

Industrial factories can also be huge threats to groundwater, especially if their waste contains heavy metals such as mercury or lead.  These toxic metals can seep into the ground water and remain for years, and are threats to human health if consumed.  Overall, factories are greater long term threats to ground water when their waste is not disposed of properly.  However, factory farms are greater threats to surface water due to the damage heavy amounts of fertilizer can do to riparian ecosystems.
