In our solar system, Mercury travels the fastest of the planets with an average orbital velocity of 47.87 kilometers/second. That is equal to 107,085 miles/hour. The planets’ speeds vary depending on their distance from the sun. So, depending on where in its own orbit Mercury is, its traveling speed will vary. At its closest point to the sun, the planet is traveling at 58.98 Km/Sec, and at its farthest point, its minimum orbital velocity is 38.86 Km/Sec.
