The Democratic Republic of Congo has the most lightning strikes in the world.  Near the small village of Kifuka, lighting strikes each square kilometer 158 times per year.  This attributed to the fact that Congo has a very warm, humid climate.  Most lightning strikes occur in the summer, but Congo has a climate that simulates a year round summer.
