The state of Washington is home to the snowiest region in the United States, the Cascade Mountains. Mount Rainier and Mount Baker experience heavy snowfall more so than any other place in the country, with annual averages well over 100 inches. The Rainier Paradise Ranger Station measures an average of 676 inches of snow per year, while the Mount Baker Ski area sees an average of 647 inches per year. “The Mount Baker downhill ski area achieved the world’s record for receiving the most snow in one year when 1140 inches, or 95 feet, (2896 cm) landed between July 1, 1998 and June 30, 1999.”
