If you read the UN’s mission statement, they are devoted to human rights. This includes raising standards of living, increasing food production, and disaster relief. Environment protection and sustainable development practices are included, and surely climate change is an unalienable part of the well-being of humans, but I think fighting poverty is more in line with their main goals.
Agreed. The United Nations is about human security around the world. While both climate change and poverty fall under the umbrella of human security issues, poverty is a much more time sensitive issue (a week without food will kill someone, a week of CO2 emissions damage is harder to quantify). The UN is always working on both issues, but if it came down to one or the other, poverty would be the more pressing issue.
