Switzerland is the greenest country in Europe, although it is beaten out of the top spot worldwide by Iceland, which is not part of the EU, but a part of the European Economic Area.

It is the greenest country in the EU in part due to governmental fines that are imposed on those who throw away trash. However, it is also the interest of the people to be ecological that has enabled the country to stay so green. Some places in Switzerland have even banned cars.
