There are two ways that a winery can manufacture their products with less negative impact on the environment. They can choose not to put chemicals in the wine, the primary one being sulfur dioxide, known as a “sulfite.” However, sulfites are used to allow the wine to last a long time, so sometimes their use is inevitable. Another positive step is to grow the grapes themselves using green methods and no chemical pesticides. If a label says the wine is “made with organic grapes,” the vineyard used organic methods and the wine has less-than-average sulfites.
When it comes to brands, Parducci boasts a carbon-neutral farm and has begun many eco-friendly programs in their area, like tree-planting. The Organic Wine Company has all-organic wines, as the name implies, that are also vegan.
