Iceland appears to be the industrialized nation with the lowest carbon emissions. In 2002, Iceland produced 2 million tons of CO2. By comparison, the United States (top CO2 emitter) produced 5,773 million tons of CO2 that year. The average for industrialized countries in 2002 was 11 tons of CO2 per person, while the worldwide average was 4 tons per person.
