I’m not sure about money, but Iceland and Sweden now generate 100 percent of their energy from green sources. Most of the energy is hydro-powered. It may not be considered “renewable”, but that’s a much better alternative than burning coal.
China is currently spending more than any other major country on clean energy (this includes wind and solar power). It replaced the U.S. as the number one spender on green energy in 2009. The country has emerged as the number one producer of solar cells (used for solar panels) and has also recently become the leader in producing wind turbines. According to Ed Lay of Emeritus International Group, China is spending 12 million dollars per minute on some aspect of renewable energy.
