It is hard to measure the amount of greenhouse gases emitted strictly from means of transportation, but a study published by an Australian organization gets pretty close to the answer. According to the study, the United States takes a strong lead in the “Fuel Combustion” category (which could be directly related to means of transportation) with 5722.6 mega tons of CO2 emissions in 2001.
