The U.S. produces the most energy of any country in the world.   In 2006 the U.S. produced more than 71 quadrillion BTU per year.  China was second at around 67 quadrillion BTU.  One BTU (British Thermal Unit) is equal to the energy given off by a lit match.  The U.S. produces the most wind power, nuclear power, and overall is number in producing electricity.  In 2008 the U.S. was the world’s 2nd greatest producer of natural gas and coal, and 3rd when it came to oil.  Keep in mind the U.S. is the country that uses the most energy per capita.
