As of 2007, Germany was rated as the leader in solar panels, accounting for half of the world’s solar panels. This was surprising, given its predominantly cloudy climate compared to other countries.
Germany is the world leader in the total capacity of its solar panels – 5,400 megawatt as of 2008. It is followed by Spain with 3,300 MW and Japan with 1,970 MW.
