No one place is most known for landslides, but they may become more common as climate change progresses. Asia has had the most landslides in the world while those in the Americas have caused the most fatalities and Europe’s landslides have been the most expensive.
Increased rainfall, population increase, human developments in risky areas, mining and deforestation all do and will continue to contribute to landslides. Other natural disasters can increase the risk of landslides, like earthquakes, floods and volcanic eruptions.
Landslides are dangerous everywhere but their worst impacts are often in developing countries where communities are poorly planned and overpopulated.
