The United States currently has the largest natural gas reserves (5,977,000,116,224), followed by Nigeria (5,209,999,802,368), and Venezuela (4,707,999,809,536).
The table you were looking at was for #6 through #10. The US is not #1, see http://www.aneki.com/countries2.php?t=Countries_with_the_Largest_Natural_Gas_Reserves&table=fb167&places=*&unit=*&order=desc&orderby=fb167.value&dependency=independent&number=5&cntdn=n&r=-67-68-69-70-71-72-73-74-76&c=&measures=Country–proven%20reserves%20of%20gas%20%28cu%20m%29&units=*–*&decimals=*–*&file=gas
Thank you for noting that, I completely goofed! I will revise it.
Never mind, it seems as if it’s too late for me to correct my answer. Hopefully viewers will view these comments. But yes, Russia is the country with the most natural gas reserves (44,650,000,000,000). The United States is indeed #6, Nigeria #7, Venezuela #8. Excuse me for the inaccuracy.
No worries… I thought at first that the source was just wrong. Un-user-friendly of them to put 1-5 on one page and 6-10 on another!
I don’t know the basis for the rankings in the citation in the other answer, but they are incorrect. The US ranks #5 in world natural gas reserves, well behind leaders Russia, Iran, and Qatar.
#1 Russia, 1,680 trillion cu ft
#2 Iran 1,046
#3 Qatar 899
#4 Saudi Arabia 264
#5 USA 244
#6 Nigeria 185
#7 Venezuela 176
Oops missed UAE with 214 trillion cu ft, making them #6.
