It depends on what you mean by “best.” Some can take that to mean “most productive,”; others “most sustainable”; yet others “most profitable.” Because it is the easiest to quantify, I have chosen the first approach, “most productive.” According to USDA statistics on World Crop Production, we can ascertain that China has the most productive agricultural system: it ranks at the top for a wide variety of products, including wheat, coarse grains, rice, and cotton. The EU comes in a close second for most of these categories, though the EU is composed of 27 member countries compared to China, which is just one country.
