I used the Energy Information Administration’s data on total renewable electricity net generation for all countries, and found that since 2000, China has added the most renewable energy to its electric grid. Today it produces about 550 billion kilowatt hours of renewable energy per year, compared to 223 billion kilowatt hours it produced in 2000.
(On a side note, since 2000 Hungary has multiplied its renewable energy generation by more than 8, more than any other country. However, this is because it had a relatively low starting point in 2000, when it generated only about .29 billion kwH of renewable energy. Today, it produces about 2.4 billion kwH of renewable energy.)
