Many coastal countries are beginning to take advantage of tidal energy. The first tidal power plant was built between 1960-1966 in La Rance, France. The first built in North America, in 1994, was at Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. Other countries that harness tidal energy are the United States, Canada, South Korea, China, the Soviet Union, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and India.
