Many countries consider coal their primary energy source. These countries include India, China (77%), Germany, and the US. In addition, according to Green World Investor, “smaller countries [or less obvious countries] also heavily rely on coal for example Poland 94%, South Africa 92%…and Australia for 76%.”
Coal is also very important for the US as well. In the US, coal is responsible for generating 57% of our electricity needs. This amount is more than any other single energy source.
China is heavily reliant on coal power – even though they are developing alternative forms of energy, the efforts they are making are not enough to keep up with their population growth and energy needs. China has the highest carbon footprint of any country, next to the US and Australia.
