The middle east holds 62 percent of the world’s oil reserves. Parts of the middle east are located on the continents of Africa and Asia (or Eurasia). Although the entire continent of Africa holds only a very small part of the world’s oil (only 9 percent), China has recently become interested in securing oil in certain parts of Africa under the belief that there are still alot of reserves yet to be discovered.
Due to the sizable oil reserves in the Middle East and Eastern Russia, Asia has the most oil in proven reserves. Even though Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries have so much oil, we’re extracting it at a rate that will deplete the stores in less than 100 years. Though the oil is abundant, it needs to be preserved.
