The first mass-produced Hybrid car was the Toyota Prius in 1997. The unit was sold in Japan – Nearly 18,000 units were sold during its first year. Eventually it was marketed to other countries a few years later.
The first actual gas-electric hybrid was the “Mixite”, developed all the way back in 1902 by Ferdinand Porsche.
