The largest bat colony in the world is made up of the 20-40 million Mexican free-tailed bats living in the Bracken Bat Cave.  The Bracken Bat Cave is located a little outside of San Antonio, Texas, and 200 individual bats have been observed to squeeze themselves into a single square foot on the cave’s ceiling.  In addition to being an incredible natural spectacle, the bat colony represents a valuable source of insect control to the surrounding area.  Each night, the bats of Bracken Cave consume an estimated 200 tons of insects.
