Not only is the U.S. the largest producer of e-waste, there is no nationwide e-waste law or regulations but it is left up to the states to put forth legislation to control their e-waste. There should be federal oversight to create uniformity in dealing with e-waste.
Illinois has the Sustainable Electronics Initiative (SEI) which develops sustainable system designs to reduce waste.
Today, approximately 25 states have created their own e-waste laws and some states have laws pending.
China, India, South America and South Africa produce tons of e-waste and is predicted to double by 2020 but worse is, none of them and adequate e-recycling plan.
