Green rooves have been around for a surprisingly long time, showing up in architectural history as early as 7 BC in the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. In Scandanavia, green rooves were used as insulation. Until the 1970’s, a green roof was a luxury for homes until German Landscape Architects, suggested their use to improve the quality of urban life. Green Roofing systems have since become more common in sustainable design and can contribute point towards LEED certification.
