One of the big issues with hybridization is that it results in genetic mixing within gene pools that causes a loss of genetic diversity. The native species of the area may not capable of handling the competitiion that the new species pose and the issue is worsened if dealing with rare or threatened species. The spread of these hybrid species can prevent the growth of or even destroy native plant populations.
