Sir Humprey David was the first to isolate potassium on 1807 in London. He did this through the electrolysis of potassium hydroxide. It was the first metal to be isolated by electrolysis. Potassium is widespread throughout the environment but is rarely found in nature on its own because of its high reactivity. It makes up 2.4% of the earths crust.
