Dr Avril Siung-Chang is from Trinidad and Tobago. She is the country’s first female marine biologist and a pioneering scientist in the field as well as in environmental research in general. At the moment she is an Environmental Health Advisor for WHO/PAHO as well as a national professional representative for her country.
Some of the work she is best known for is:
The pioneer of beach litter surveys in the Caribbean.
Early researcher of Mangrove Oysters in Jamaica.
She helped create a whole generation of scientists and technologists in Marine Biology and Environmental Research at the Institute of Marine Affairs.
