Year-round, the sun is located at the center of our solar system. It is the one thing, relative to the other celestial bodies in our solar system, that doesn’t change position. However, during the summer months in Maine, you will find that the sun reaches it’s highest point over the horizon during the course of the year. It may even get almost directly over head during the mid-day. This causes the rays of sun to hit more directly and allows for higher temperatures to be reached during the summer.
