Nissan’s lithium-ion battery plant is located in Smyrna, Tennessee. Nissan already has an assembly plant for their vehicles in that area, which is why they chose to build the battery plant there. In this facility, they plan on producing 200,000 battery packs each year to power Nissan’s electric Leaf model. In addition to the plant in Tennessee, Nissan is constructing a large battery plant in Cacia, Portugal that should be operational by December of 2012.
The plant is also located adjacent ot Nissan’s vehicle assembly line and will be capable of producing 150,000 electric cars each year. The plant will create 1,300 jobs for USA manufacturing.
