The US Department of Energy researched fourty nine states in the United States, excluding Delaware because of the lack of resource potential, for possible hydroelectric sites.  They identified 5,677 possible locations that had a capacity to generate 30,000 MW of energy.  Additional details on the hydropower capacity of each state can be seen on Idaho National Laboratory website.
