The Clark Fork River site in Montana has been called the largest Superfund site after being listed in 1983. Toxic mining sediments collected in the area after a 1908 flood washed several million cubic yards of heavy metal, arsenic laced sediments into the river. The ten-year cleanup is beginning right now.
