The largest solar farm in the Mojave Desert is the soon to be completed Blythe Solar Power Project, which at 1000 Megawatts, will be the largest solar facility in the world. It is located about 60 miles due east of Indio, CA, along Interstate 10.
The largest currently operational solar farm in the Mojave is the Solar Energy Generating Systems farm, which is actually a combination of 9 solar farms to form a larger, 354 megawatt system, capable of powering 232,000 homes. The farms are located at Dagget, Harper Lake, and Kramer Junction, California. They are located approximately 60 miles due northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
The largest solar farm in the Mohave dessert, slated to be the largest solar farm in the world is located in Ivanpah, California. The project is spearheaded by BrightSource Energy, working on federal land managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The farm is made up of three separate plants to be finished in 2013. This complex will reduce CO2 emissions by 400,000 tons per year.
