The Komodo dragon is native to the Komodo islands off the shore of Indonesia.
The endangered komodo dragon is native to the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia. Despite being discovered relatively recently, only about a hundred years ago, they have called these islands home for millions of years. In particular, populations of komodo dragons can be found on the islands of Komodo, Flores, Rinca, and Gila Motang. The lighter portions on the map below represent their range.
