The hole in the ozone layer is located over Antarctica. Even though its size changes with the seasons, the amount of ozone present has been fairly steadily declining overall since 1964.
The ozone layer hole appears over antarctica, usually during the winter months. The Montreal Protocol was created and signed in 1987, then amended in 1990 and 1992, to protect the ozone layer from further damage. Since then, the hole has been recovering.
