Formaldehyde can be found in the home in particle board, plywood, pressed wood, insulation as well as in some synthetic fabrics, shampoos and cosmetics. It is used in products as an adhesive, bonding agent and solvent. It can be let off as a gas as room temperature or as part of a combustive process. It smells like pickles and is known to cause eye and throat irritation, headaches and dizziness. Long term exposure may cause cancer. A formaldehyde monitor can be purchased for your home.
