Legend has it that an Ethiopian goatherd first discovered the coffee plant and the stimulating effects it could have when his goats began nibbling on the berries that contain the beans. He then ate some for himself, experiencing the same effects as his herd. Coffee itself, however, began to be roasted and brewed in Arabia around 1000 A.D. It gained popularity and remained an export of only Arabia until the 1600’s, when someone was able to bring fertile seeds to Europe and spread it to the rest of the world.
