Where does NYC dump its garbage?

The last garbage dump in New York City, Fresh Kills Landfill in Staten Island, closed at the end of 2001 after being pressed to deal with the debris from 9/11. Without a place in-city to send the 13,000 tons of waste it generates each day New York City has a 20 year plan to export its trash out of state, at a cost of approximately $400 million a year.
