Steel is a metal alloy; alloys are produced when one metal, such as iron in the case of steel, is combined with various other elements, such as carbon, also in the case of steel, to produce a much stronger metal. In the process, the metal is heated, by which, different elements adhere to it, restructuring the individual atoms to make them stronger. Steel has been being produced in America since its first industrial uses back in the nineteenth century.
