Shark finning is widespread, conducted all over the world. Some countries (such as Costa Rica) have specifically banned it, but that doesn’t stop it from happening illegally off their shores or for loopholes to be exploited (for instance catching a whole shark, taking it on land, and then removing the fin). As it is largely an Asian delicacy, most of the crews who fish for sharks and most of where the shark fins end up are Asian countries such as China, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
